Excursions

The Grand Hotel Adriatic has prepared a wide choice of organized excursions for its guests:

Krk tour with wine tasting

The island of Krk (connected by a bridge to the mainland) is the largest and northernmost island in the Croatian Adriatic. Owing to its proximity, it is an interesting destination for tourists staying in Opatija both in winter and in the summer.

Krk is a very diverse island - each locality has its own characteristics:

  • Punat is found in an almost completely closed bay and boasts the largest marina on the island. Especially interesting are the uniquely built fishermen´s houses, which can be found in old Punat.
  • The islet of Košljun is well known for its Franciscan monastery, which holds an important library and a rich collection of statues and other objects of art. Košljun lies at the centre of the Punat Bay and can be reached by participating in one of the excursions, which are organized on a daily basis either from Punat of from the town of Krk.
  • Vrbnik is the largest town on the northern side of the island. The town rises on a cliff above the sea and dominates the underlying channel. It is famous for its wine, the žlahtina, which can be bought in the wine cellar at the entrance to the town or tasted in local restaurants and inns (konobe). Be sure not to miss the inn , which offers local specialties - prosciutto, cheese, salted fish - in an original atmosphere.

National park Risnjak

A comfortable drive through the hill region of Gorski kotar takes you to the mountain and National Park Risnjak, which covers an area of 64km2. The park starts at 300m at the source of the river Kupa and reaches 1528m with its highest peak, the Veliki Risnjak. Our expert guide will indicate the most important feature of the park: the mountain climate, the karst phenomena, the ancient evergreen forest ...

Risnjak is well known for the scope it offers for winter sports and hunting (bears, deer, wild boars), fishing in torrents and artificial lakes, etc.

We will take you to visit the educational path of LESKA, one of the first of its kind in Croatia: its lay-out enables every visitor to walk it on their own. The path is 4500 meters long and it takes approx. 2 hours to walk. After the visit, you will view a film on the Risnjak National Park and have lunch. After some free time, you will return to Opatija.

National park Plitvice

3 hours and 30 min. by car from Opatija.
It is a unique geological and hydro-geological phenomenon.

A cascade-like series of 16 larger lakes and smaller ones, separated by limestone barriers, which originated over the last 10.000 years, when environmental relations were favourable for the precipitation of limestone and the creation of lakes. The National Park has rightly been declared by UNESCO a world heritage site.
